Triple win for Lothian girls at Forfar 10k

THREE was the magic number for Lothian Running Club as a trio of female athletes raced to success at Sunday’s Forfar 10k at Market Muir with wins in the female individual race, the female team race as well as the Junior female category.

The club’s Irish internationalist Edel Mooney headed the female race, placing 10th overall in 38 minutes 35 seconds, pushing 2009 victor Jill Knowles into second place.

Club junior Chloe Cox turned in a fine performance to finish third female and first junior after he speedy time of 40 minutes 8 seconds.

And with Jocelyn Moar, 44 minutes 17 seconds, coming home in ninth place the club rounded of a good day by also claiming the female team prize.

Sunday’s Perth Highland Games saw Mhairi Inglis continued her recent fine vein of form by racing to victory in the open 800 metres handicap.

The Lothian runner had to dig deep in the latter stages of a competitive race to repel all challengers and cross the finish line in one minute 51.72 seconds.

Mhairi was followed home by her sister Sarah, who was also in the prizes in sixth place.

Sarah, who was making only her second appearance on this summer’s games circuit, ran a better race in the longer 3200 metres handicap, where she placed third.

Sprinter Darren Thomson finished a close-up third in the 200m handicap.

In the youth events, 11-year-old Hannah Stewart turned in a couple of sterling performances in the 800m, where she finished second, and 1600 metres.

The club’s Nicola Kellock was also in the prizes in the 800 in fourth place.

In the 1600 Hannah, off her top mark again led for much of the race before finishing in fourth place.

Hannah’s older twin sisters Ashley and Sarah Stewart were also in the prizes in the closing relay race.

Five club runners contested this week’s Edinburgh Parkrun. There were category wins for Scott Balfour [MV60] and Lana Turnbull [Junior 15-19].
