THE second round of fixtures in the West Lothian Primary School Basketball League took place this week as the next generation of hoop heroes took to the courts again.
Riverside continued their strong form under coach Teresa Lynch, who has done an excellent job over the last number of years of building up basketball at the school.
The Riverside squad are one of the best teams in West Lothian and after the second round of league games they continue to prove their dominance by sitting proudly on top of the league.
However, Riverside did not have it easy and they were made to work hard to gain victory.
In their second game of the day, Craigshill narrowly beat Williamston by five points and, bearing in mind Riverside had won each of their games on day one by an average of 14 points, it shows how much teams like Williamston have progressed since the first week of fixtures.
The final games of the day between Wolves and Riverside was a brilliant match-up that saw the two squads go into the fourth quarter drawn at 14-14.
Riverside were thankful for the skills of their point guard Darren Cassidy to push ahead and win the game. Darren had six unanswered points to start the fourth quarter.
Toronto have also shown a massive improvement by winning three games out of four.
They lost their first game convincingly to Riverside, but then picked up wins against Bankton, Williamston and Livingston Village.
Bankton have also chalked up three wins and just one defeat, with victories over Livingston Village, Wolves and Williamston.
Livingston Village and Williamston were able to pick up wins as well, which means that all teams in the league have won at least one game.
The West Lothian Primary School Basketball League is organised in Partnership between West Lothian Council and the West Lothian Wolves Basketball Club.
Volunteers from Armadale Academy’s Junior Sports Leaders Programme helped to referee in games and will support the remainder of the fixtures.
