Wolves back on the prowl in the under 12 basketball league

THE West Lothian Wolves under-12 boys and girls were back on the hardwood last weekend in the East/Central Regional Challenge, held at the Peak in Stirling.

The boys were seeking their first win of their campaign and it proved to be a happy hunting ground.

The Wolves had fallen short against Edinburgh Kings and the East Lothian Peregrines in previous league meetings but they did well against a strong Knights camp which was able to field three squads on the day.

First up were the Knights A team. The Wolves started out dominant, with great defence and passing which produced a number of baskets.

However, the Knights came back into the game in the second half and took the win from the Wolves with a final score of 23-16.

Next on to the court were the Knights C team. The Wolves again forged ahead to an early lead, going into the first break with an 8-0 scoreline and it was a lead they did not relinquish and ran out 16-11 winners.

Knights B team followed and this proved to be the most one-sided encounter of the day, as the Wolves slipped to a 30-13 defeat.

The final fixture for the Wolves was a rematch against the Knights C team. This time Wolves looked confident and played a brilliant game again, dominating on defence and using fast breaks to score easy baskets.

The Wolves ran out winners 30-6, giving them a total of two wins from four.

It was a different story for the all-conquering girls’ Wolves squads, who cruised to victory in all their matches.

In their first game Wolves girls faced off against the Falkirk Fury, and won 24-11.

Up next were the Stirling Knights, who have only been together for four weeks, and this was their first unde-12 game, but they showed real enthusiasm and promise. Wolves, however, did not let up and defeated the Knights 38-3.

In third game of the day the Wolves were up against the Knights again, finishing with a very similar score line of 30-3.

The Fury were up again for the final game of the day and the Wolves looked even stronger against the Falkirk side.

Their height and speed were too much for the Fury and Wolves finished the day with a 41-11 win.

The Wolves are at the top of the table now with 10 wins out of 10 and look to finish the league in dominant fashion.
