Rain puts skids on cricket

COUNTY First XI’s clash with Weirs First XI at Boghall in the SNCL Championship Division was the latest in a long line of casualties of the West Lothian weather.

Torrential rain, thunder and lighting which made the ground unplayable and the match was abandoned at with a no result.

The County Second XI’s match against Grange 3rd XI at Boghall in the East League Division Three was postponed before it even started to the state of the ground.

The County Third XI did manage to start and finish their match when they travelled to Dunbar in the East League Division.

County batted first scoring 274 for 6 in 45 overs. A partnership of 195 for the third wicket between Kevin Smith 97 and Michael Miller 94 was the mainstay of the innings.

The Newman brothers were the other double figure scorers with Andrew scoring 13 and Chris 12.

After tea Dunbar tried to chase down the 275 runs required for victory, but by the 27th over they had been bowled out for 105, with A. Bryant 48 not out.

County bowler Sean Holdsworth did the damage with a 9 over spell with figures of 7 for 40 a personal best return for Sean.

Andrew Newman 2 for 29 and Jonty Small 1 for 13 completed the route.

County won the match by 169 runs and collect 20 points with Dunbar picking up five bonus points.
