LIVINGSTON swimmer Craig McLean made a national splash this week after chalking up five personal bests on his ASA National Age Group Championships debut.

The 12-year-old swimmer took to the water in Sheffield against the best young swimmers from all across the UK.

McLean, who trains and competes for Carnegie Swimming Club, produced personal best performances in all his five events.

His first came in the 100m backstroke before he produced an even speedier swim in the final to earn a bronze gong.

Next, he qualified in second place for the 100m freestyle final. In the final he had a great start which his rivals never recovered from and the West Lothian water star won gold.

On the third day McLean turned his attention to the 200m backstroke where he won another bronze.

Craig reached another final on day four after a personal best in the 200m freestyle.

This placed Craig placed sixth in a very competitive field.
