Lothian Running Club junior members in the prizes

FIVE of Lothian Running Club’s junior members were selected to compete at Saturday’s JSB Forth Valley League President’s Select meeting at Grangemouth.

All acquitted themselves well and did the club proud – returning home with a total of seven medals.

A number of personal bests were also recorded in the process. There were golds for both Grant Kirkwood and Christopher Fletcher in the Boys’ Under-15 High Jump and Boys’ U-13 4x100 metres relay, respectively.

Grant also picked up a silver in the Boys’ U-15 shot putt as well as a bronze in the Boys’ U-15 javelin.

Grant really pulled out all the stops for his medal haul, recording PBs in each event.

There were further bronze medals for both Christopher Fletcher and Amy McCulloch, with the latter’s coming in the Girls’ U-15 800m, when Amy recorded a new PB to take third place.

Christopher took third place in both the Boys’ U-13 long jump and javelin.

In the Girls’ U-13 800m Tara Walsh missed out on a medal but managed to record a new PB.

The club’s youngest competitor on the day was Robbie Fleming, who finished in sixth place in the Boys’ U-11 100m.

Lothian Running Club fielded two teams among the 32 who contested Sunday’s Comrie Hills Relay in Perthshire. The ‘Y’ team finished 16th overall and second mixed team; with the ‘X’ team 19th and third mixed team.

The Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay is a 42k relay race with 2110m of ascent in four stages for teams of five. At Saturday’s Pitlochry Highland Games after finishing fifth in the final of the Youth’s 90m Handicap Nicola Kellock won the Youth’s Long Jump and Youth’s 400m Handicap, with club-mate Alice Horsburgh finishing runner-up in the latter.

Nicola and Alice then teamed up with two Pitreavie AC members to finish in fourth place in the SHGA Club’s relay, then were winning members of the Youth’s relay. Iain and Jill Horsburgh were also prize winners, with Iain sixth in the Youth’s 800m Handicap while Jill was a member of the winning team in the Open relay event.

Colin Partridge was the only Lothian Running Club member in Saturday’s Edinburgh Parkrun. He finished second, and in doing so recording a new PB for the 5k course along the Edinburgh waterfront. His time of 17 minutes 12 seconds was 13 seconds quicker than his previous best set two weeks prior.
