Monarchs set for Bears battle

THE SCOTWASTE Monarchs are set for back-to-back clashes against the Somerset Rebels this week after stumbling to defeat against Redcar.

The Armadale team were humbled by the Bears 39-54 when they were without Matthew Wethers, making a win unlikely.

But the score was still disappointing, with Craig Cook having another poor away match.

The Monarchs were set to take on Redcar last night in the first of the meetings.

The two sides met twice earlier this month with both teams winning a match apiece.

But Monarchs will need to be on their guard with Rebels’ Sam Masters and James Wright both being capable of far better performances than they turned in last time.

With Matthew Wethers expected to return from injury, Monarchs will be looking for a repeat of the excellent form of their top men Kevin Wolbert, Andrew Tully and Craig Cook to see them through.

Byron Bekker misses this week’s fixtures with young Tom Perry of Dudley deputising.

Teams for Friday:

Scotwaste Monarchs: Kevin Wolbert, Kalle Katajisto, Andrew Tully, Matthew Wethers, Craig Cook, Tom Perry, Kyle Howarth.

Somerset Rebels: Sam Masters, rider replacement for Christian Hefenbrock, Dakota North, Corey Gathercole, James Wright, Alex Davies, James Holder.

l Kevin Wolbert represents the Monarchs in Sunday’s Premier League Riders’ Championship at Sheffield. The last Monarch to win the event was Peter Carr in 1997.
