Monarchs take on Lions

THE Scotwaste Monarchs have just a handful of league matches remaining, and face a much-changed Leicester Lions team at Armadale tomorrow.

The Lions actually created a major shock when they won at Armadale in April, but only one of their team from that night remains.

They now have two of the league’s top riders spearheading their team with Finn Kauko Nieminen who was third in the Premier League Riders’ Championship at Sheffield last Sunday and former Monarch Magnus Karlsson, a star of the 2003 league winners at Armadale.

Kevin Wolbert also rode in the Premier League Riders’ Championship on Sunday and scored seven points, then starred in the Elite League Playoff on Sky TV on Monday, riding for Poole and scoring nine points. Poole ride in the final over the next two Mondays and are again expected to use Monarchs’ German star.

Teams for Friday:

Monarchs: Kevin Wolbert, Kalle Katajisto, Andrew Tully, Matthew Wethers, Craig Cook, Tom Perry, Kyle Howarth.

Leicester Lions: Kauko Nieminen, Viktor Bergstrom, Ilya Bondarenko, Henning Bager, Magnus Karlsson, Jan Graversen, Jason Garrity.

Monarchs ride at Leicester on Saturday. The remaining matches at Armadale are Newport (October 7th) and Glasgow (October 14th).
