Courier reports reporter in marathon attempt

COURIER sports reporter Kieran Westbrook is embarking on a challenge of a lifetime – he’s running the Edinburgh Marathon!

The 27-year-old bet friend Will Ferguson-Smith he could finish the race in a better time than him.

He is also planning to raise money for a multiple sclerosis charity as a member of his family was recently diagnosed with the illness.

He has set up a Just Giving account where people can donate to the MS Society.

And as he prepares for the big day in May, he is running a blog to document his struggles.

He said: “This all really started as a bit of a joke – but I don’t think either of us will be laughing when May arrives!

“We both felt we could do with losing a few pounds and wanted to bet each other for motivation.

“The marathon has certainly brought things up a notch!

"Although it started as a bet, the fundraising has become the most important part.

“The blog seemed a good idea because it will give me something to think about when I’m out running.

“Neither me or Will have any experience in running, so at least we’re starting at a similar level.”
