A YOUNG Lothian Running Club member is fast making a name for herself in the world of triathlon.
Linlithgow Academy pupil Keri Greig has been selected to join Triathlon Scotland’s Foundation Squad for the forthcoming year.
Keri won the Scottish Schools 13-14 years Championship in June and then the Scottish Youth Championship in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow in August.
She also competed in a competition in Liverpool in June and latterly represented Scotland in the British Inter-Regional Championships in September.
Lothian Running Club’s Edel Mooney followed up her Edinburgh Parkrun win the previous week by racing to victory in Saturday’s EFD Energy Dunbar 10 mile ‘Doon Hill’ Race.
Edel produced a fine performance in the rain, recording a time of 1 hour 02 minutes 57 seconds. This placed her seventh overall.
It was all females who represented the club at the event with 29th and 5th F. Suzie Hannah [1:12.01], 42nd and 10th F Saran Jones [1:16.57] and 55th and 17th F Jill Horsburgh [1:21.56]. Eighty-three completed.
Lothian Running Club athletes enjoyed another winning weekend at both the Falkirk and Edinburgh Parkruns.
At Falkirk, both Brian Turner and Lana Turnbull followed up their respective wins in the male and female races from the week before. Brian covered the 5k course in 17.50 while Lana who also finished 9th overall came home in 23.33.
The club’s two other representatives in the race were female vets Mags Turnbull and Val Finch and both set new PBs. For Mags who stopped the clock at 26.09 it was her third PB in as many weeks. Val, running the event for only the second time, improved her time from seven days prior by a massive 86 seconds in finishing in 36.41. Overall Mags was 50th and ninth female with Val 89th and 36th female. Ninety-five ran.
In the Edinburgh race Chloe Cox, who finished runner-up to her club-mate Edel Mooney the week before, went one better on this occasion to take the women's title, and in doing so recorded a new PB of [17.56], Chloe also finished 4th overall.
Leanne Webster was the only other club runner in the race and she finished 44th overall and eighth female with a time of 21.32. One hundred and seventy-four ran.
There was further success down south where club veteran Ian Leggett contested the Milton Keynes Parkrun and won the MV70 category, finishing in a time of 22.38. Ian also finished 31st overall.
Lothian Running Club fielded only one team in Saturday’s East District Cross-Country Relays at Camperdown Park in Dundee.
That was in the Senior Men’s 4 x 2.5 mile event, with the quartet of Ross Milne [12.54], Max McNeil [12.39], Colin Meek [17.52] and Scott Nelson [15.39] finishing 22nd of the 41 teams in an accumulative time of [59.04].
The only other club member in action was Kenny Mearns who ran a solo leg in [19.12].
The cross-country season continues this Saturday at Stirling with the first of three matches in the East District XC League.
Half a dozen club members braved very windy conditions to contest Sunday's gruelling Pentland Skyline race, which is a 16-mile run over 16 peaks of the Pentland Hills. A record field of 186 runners took part.
Club results were: 28th Ally Robertson [3.06.08], 58th David Berrill [3:16.42], 62nd John Malcolm [3:20.09], 155th Colin McNeil [4:14.31], 152nd Jim Alexander [4:15.01], 183rd Calvin Crane 4:58.50].
