George “Shock and Orr” Orr with double win

GEORGE ORR notched up another double victory in his Ford Fiesta ST at Knockhill Racing Circuit.

The 41-year-old Linlithgow Bridge rally driver won both races in Knockhill Motor Sports Club’s first-ever meeting.

The event differed from the Scottish Fiesta Championship that George has been competing in all year round as the grids were made up of a mix of Fiesta STs, Fiesta XR2s and Mini Coopers.

The competition was not only to see who the top driver would be, but also which car would come out on top.

Race One’s starting positions were determined by the early morning qualifying times that each driver had set. George went out with a full set of wets on for qualifying and qualified on pole position for Race One with brothers David and Tim Sleigh in their BMW Mini Coopers alongside in second and third position.

Due to track conditions the race was very close between the top three.

Despite the slicks tyres not responding well to the greasy track conditions and also contact from the Mini Coopers, George secured first place not only in the ST class but for the overall race.

The track dried up fully just in time for Race Two, giving George an easier ride than the previous race.

His slick tyres responding well this time and he was able to develop a hefty gap on the rest of the field and secure his second overall race victory of the day.

He said: “I couldn't have wished for better results – coming away with another double victory is just brilliant.

“I’d also like to say a huge thanks to the team, not forgetting my other half Jade who has been at every race this season cheering me on, or calming me down, and also for putting up with all the late nights working on the car to get it ready for the next meeting.”

This was the last car meeting of the 2011 season.
