Great month of fishing in Bangour

OCTOBER proved to be a great month for the Bangour Trout Fishery as the milder weather kept the fish on the move much to the delight of the county anglers and visitors.

The top flies last month had been daddies, hoppers and CDCs in black, harelug and claret.

Lure fishing has also kicked in big time at the county fishery now with the drop in water temperature and best patterns have been rabbits in black or white, the yellow dancer and the hothead damsel, best fished with a cormorant or traditional on a dropper.

Some really good sport had been on traditions such as Kate McKlaren’s and Bibios, sometimes pulled quickly across the top.

Buzzer fishing has been hit and miss this month with some days loads of buzzers hatching and others nothing at all, best buzzer for the month has been a yellow cheeked black buzzer.

Some of the big boys have started to show their mettle with the winter approaching.

Peter Faulds from Falkirk had a fantastic 22lb rainbow on the 999 fund raising day on a damsel, Jim Fowler from Edinburgh had a 26lb rainbow on a yellow dancer and Andy McGill had a superb wild brown trout of 10lb 8oz on a home tied lure. Well done to all the guys.

The big fish board showed 37 fish between 5lb and 26lb with only six doubles landed, the average weight for the month was 3lb 2oz.
