WEST Calder’s Allandale Tarn Fisheries are having a one-off bait competition on Sunday.
And the fisheries are hopeful there will be a high entry for the event.
The competition itself is going to be a strictly 'live bait only' event, so anglers are expected to bring plenty of tasty worms, maggots or wasp grubs to the Tarn-based event.
Full details of the competition can be found on the Tarn web site at: www.allandaletarn.com.
On the whole, Allandale has continued to fish well over the past few weeks.
The most consistant tactics for anglers on the fly have been floating line with a team of Buzzers, a single Hot Head Damsel or white lure fished on the drift while even some Hoppers, spiders and CDC's are working in the warmer afternoons.
As temperatures drop, the retrieves have been more variable, switching from a slow figure of eight to a fast strip at times when the fish are chasing hard.
Temperatures permitting, it is intended that Allandale will be open for fishing throughout the winter months.
