LOTHIAN Running Club member Max McNeil crossed the line as first junior in the Edinburgh Parkrun.
His time of 16 minutes and 15 seconds was too quick for most of the field as he also finished third overall.
He was running in a trio with Lothian Running Club members David and Carol Mabon who finished 50th and 186th with times of 20.27 and 27.38 respectively. Carol was 42nd female.
This weekend sees one of big events in the West Lothian running calendar and will see hundreds of athletes of all ages converge on Dechmont Law Park, Deans, Livingston this Sunday for the second match of three in the 2011/2012 East District Cross-Country League.
It will also be a busy day for the Lothian Running Club who will be hosting the event, as well as having members out stewarding as well as running.
The timetable for the five races are: 1pm – Girls and Boys Under-11 [1.5km]; 1:15pm – Girls and Boys Under-13 [2.5km]; 1:35pm – Senior, Junior and Veteran Women [6.4km]; 2:10pm Girls and Boys Under-15 and Women Under-17 [3.5km]; 2.30pm – Senior, Junior and Veteran Men [9.6km].
Last weekend past saw Lothian club members out and about at various events.
Half a dozen were amongst a field of 266 that completed the Tinto Hill Race, First home in 17th place was Ally Robertson [47m 02s], following him across the finish line were 40th Colin Partridge [39m 36s], 46th John Malcolm [40m 04s], 63rd and 5th female Chloe Cox [41m 19s], 159th Jim Alexander [47m 02s] and 186th and 26thF Suzie Hannah [49m 34s].
Further north, club veteran Alan Robertson was the sole club representative in the Glen Clova Half Marathon, Alan finished in 118th place of the 253 finishers in 105 minutes 12 seconds.
The Horsburgh family contested three different category's at the Lasswade Open Cross-Country meeting.
Iain was 11th in the Under-11 Boys race, Alice 14th in the Under-15 Girls race and mum Jill 9th and 1st FSV in the Senior Women’s race.
The club also had three runners in he Senior Men’s race, 37th Stephen Malcolm, 38th Alan McIntosh and 42nd Jim Alexander.
The good weather brought out the runners for both the Falkirk and Edinburgh 5k Parkruns and the Lothian club had a record 14 runners at the Falkirk event at Callendar Park. Lothian Running Club is again aiming to hold its annual Festive Handicap race at Beecraigs on Boxing Day.
Ever present on the running calendar since 1986, the races were cancelled in both 2009 and 2010 because of the heavy snow preventing access to the course. In 2008, over 150 runners took part in the 7km and 14km events, or in the 1km ‘Cockleroy Chaser’ event.
First runners are off at 11.00am on the day. Entries for the handicap events, which are free, are preferred in advance, by 22nd December to Peter West, 01506 492088 or peterwest@blueyonder.co.uk
