Wildcats host successful netball summit and vow to hold more in 2012
A NETBALL summit hosted by the West Lothian Wildcats saw teams from across the central belt hit Livingston for some super sport.
The first event of its kind in the region saw over 20 netball players taking part.
Northsiders Netball Club from Glasgow and Edinburgh sides Caledonian Netball Club and The B Team took part in the invitational at St Margaret’s Academy in Howden, Livingston.
Tournament organiser Grant Thomson split the club members into three new teams named the Whirlwinds, Tornados, and Cyclones.
Each team played each other three times with the winners earning the bragging rights for the rest of the day.
And Wildcats chairman Paul Stark reckons it is an event they will be expanding in 2012.
He told the Courier: “It was a fantastic event – we’re really pleased with how it went.
“It turned out to be very competitive and played at a high pace.
“Everyone seemed to really enjoy it and the feedback was all very positive.”
He added: “The format worked very well and we’re definitely going to try and put something similar on in the new year.
“Now that we have seen it work well, we want to expand it and make it bigger.”
The event was held throughout the day on Saturday.
The Wildcats were established after one of their current members advertised at Whitburn Academy for teachers looking to take part in a netball night in the gym hall.
Since then, a netball scene has developed with social matches on Wednesday nights and more competitive games in Mondays in Whitburn Academy.
