LOTHIAN Running Club’s Sarah Inglis got back to winning ways at the weekend.
Representing Edinburgh University’s Hares and Hounds Sarah led home the 54 runners to win the Women’s category of the Glasgow University 5 mile Road Race.
The race starts in the Garscube Sports Complex on the outskirts of Glasgow, it then follows a two lap course around quiet roads with a good balance of flat running and some hilly sections.
On a bitterly cold but at times sunny afternoon the runners had to battle against a mix of wind, rain and hail during the race.
Undeterred by the elements, fourth-year teaching student Inglis turned in a resolute performance to cross the finish line in 28 minutes 47 seconds to repel the challenge of nearest pursuers Gemma Rankin [Kilbarchan AC] 29.02 and Lesley Chisholm [Garscube Harriers] 29.03.
In the overall mixed male/female classification Sarah finished well up in 16th of the 187 finishers.
Lothian Running Club duo Ally Robertson and Kenny Lind contested race four in the 2011/2012 Borders Cross-Country series at Peebles on Sunday.
Ally finished in 12th place and 3rd junior [16-19] in 27 minutes 37 seconds with Kenny placing 67th of the 187 finishers in 31 minutes 31 seconds.
Other club results: Edinburgh Park Run, 56 and 9 F Jill Horsburgh [23.55], 84 Ian Hall [25.48],146 & 41F Alice Horsburgh; Falkirk Park Run, 11 Paul Young [21.11],42 and 5F Shona Young [24.24], 51 Ted Finch [25.22],94 & 29F Val Finch [35.15]; Strathclyde Park Run, 59 Brian Morris [27.43].
The cross-country season continues this Saturday with the Scottish Athletics East District Championship in Aberdeen, the event was scheduled for the Granite City 12 months ago but had to be cancelled due to the snow. Hopefully it wont be a similar scenario on this occasion.
