Lothian Running Club members bring in 2012 with Portobello race

LOTHIAN Running Club members were among the huge field who contested the Portobello Promethon four-mile Race and Fun Run on New Year's Day.

Six of their runners joined the 400 who chose to blow away the Hogmanay cobwebs by taking part in the 2012 opener.

Gerry McCafferty was the first club runner home in 99th place in 26 minutes and five seconds.

He was closely followed by 106th-placed Brian Reid [26.18] and Mike Lieberman who finished 109th [26.30].

Jill Horsburgh was the club's only female representative and she covered the waterfront course in 28 minutes 31 seconds, which placed her 165th overall and third FSV (female senior veteran).

Jill's children Iain and Alice did well in the Fun Run, with Iain crossing the line in first place and Alice the first female.

Lothian RC members were out in force at the final Falkirk 5k Parkrun of the year with 10 contesting the event.

There were personal bests for Paul and Shona Young, Mags Turnbull and Keri Greig, the latter was also runner-up in both the overall female category and JW14 category.

The male JW14 classification was won by Iain Horsburgh.

Max McNeil was the only club member in action at the Open Graded Meeting hosted by the Glasgow Athletics Association in Kelvin Hall.

Max contested the B Race of four 3000m events, in which he finished seventh in a time of nine minutes 32.42 seconds.
