Mixed Martial Arts queen Joanne Calderwood clinches fifth straight win

Joanne Calderwood says she was disappointed not to take out her Austrian opponent despite winning by decision.

The mixed martial arts star dominated Livia Von Plettenberg at the Kansas City fight, but couldn’t land a knockout .

And the MMA perfectionist admitted her first emotion was disappointment.

She said: “I wanted to take her down outright and not have to rely on the judges.

“Livia was in complete defensive mode, which made it hard to finish her.

“That was my first emotion but, after watching the fight back again, I was really pleased with my performance.”

Joanne (below), 27, was fighting in the largest female organisation in the world — Invicta — after turning down a late title fight due to a lack of preparation time.

She is a prominent member of the Higher Level MMA club that moved to Whitburn last year, and fiance to head coach James Doolan.

The former nurse said: “Getting to take part in five fights in a year has been great.”
