LEAGUE leaders Scotwaste Monarchs race Somerset Rebels home and away this week with the Rebels coming to Armadale Stadium on Friday.
The Rebels are one of the most improved teams in the league and have some strong riders including ex-Glasgow Tiger Shane Parker and two fellow Australians in Corey Gathercole and impressive newcomer Sam Masters.
The recent signing of former Elite League German Christian Hefenbrock has also improved the Rebels fortunes, and they won at King’s Lynn last week.
Monarchs still lead the Premier League and should they gain eight points from their next six matches (two at home, four away) then no-one will be able to catch them. There are three points available on Friday.
Before then they travel to Somerset on Wednesday, but they will need to ride better than they did at Workington last Saturday if they are to gain anything there. A 51-42 defeat in Cumbria was disappointing even though luck went against them on the night.
No blame could be attached to Ryan Fisher as the American piled up 17 points.
On Friday Monarchs had comfortably dispatched King’s Lynn from the KO Cup with a 58-31 win, making it a whopping 114-65 on aggregate. They will now face Workington in the semi-final on dates yet to be agreed.
Kevin Wolbert top scored, and the German has been showing excellent form in recent weeks.
Teams for Friday
Scotwaste Monarchs: Ryan Fisher, Matthew Wethers, Kevin Wolbert, Kalle Katajisto, Andrew Tully, Arlo Bugeja, William Lawson.
Somerset Rebels: Corey Gathercole, Ritchie Hawkins, Sam Masters, Christian Hefenbrock, Shane Parker, James Holder, Kyle Howarth.
