Livingston FC 2 Annan 0
SIX-SATIONAL Livingston moved up to second spot in the table with a win over Annan Athletic that was a real family affair.
The two goals were scored by one set of siblings while the assists were made by another set.
David Winters opened the scoring after a ball from Kyle Jacobs while big brother Robbie Winters doubled the advantage after linking up with the elder Jacobs sibling, Keaghan.
It was Livingston’s sixth win in the last seven league games and takes them to within a point of Albion Rovers at the top of the table.
After the success enjoyed in Forfar the hosts again lined up with three forwards in the Winters brothers and Italian Rafaelle De Vita.
And it once again paid dividends with all three heavily involved in the action.
The early stages saw Livingston boss possession without really asking too many questions of the Annan defence.
But in the 18th minute Livingston took the lead when Annan keeper Craig Summersgill made a complete hash of a long diagonal ball from Kyle Jacobs.
It should have been a bread and butter clearance for Summersgill or the covering Aaron Muirhead but neither called and both went for it.
The outcome was the keeper was caught in no man’s land and Muirhead's poor header was gathered by David Winters who skipped into the box and lashed the ball home at the near post from 10 yards.
The second goal came three minutes before the break with Keaghan Jacobs this time the architect as he surged through the heart of the Galashankies back line, skipped a couple of tackles before prodding the ball to Robbie Winters.
The veteran expertly shifted the onto his left foot and rifled the ball high into the net for his fourth goal in as many games.
A minute later and De Vita forced a sensational one-handed save from Summersgill with a towering header but the assistant referee’s flag would have denied the Italian his fourth goal of the season had it crept in anyway.
Lions captain Liam Fox should have added his name to the scoresheet twice inside the opening five minutes of the second half but despite making excellent runs into the box and good build-up play he had left his shooting boots at home and failed to find the target either time.
Sub Andy Halliday had a strong appeal for a penalty waved away by referee Neil Watters in a match in which Livingston were rarely troubled and well worthy of their three points.
