Livingston take three points against Queen's Park

Queen's Park 1 Livingston 2

HAMPDEN Park proved to be a happy hunting ground once again for league leading Livingston on Saturday as they won at the national stadium for the second time in just four weeks.

The on-form Lions are pulling away from the rest of the pack in the race for the title.

But they were made to work hard for the points by a spirited Queen's Park side who fought and scrapped for a share of the points.

Livingston dominated the first-half but didn’t find a way through a well organised Spiders rearguard until shortly after the restart when South African-born Keaghan Jacobs, who revealed to the Courier his hope of playing for Scotland using the new residency rules, finished off a flowing team move.

Six Livi players were involved from back to front with the Lions finding the net just 17 seconds after they were defending a corner.

Andy Halliday nodded the ball out of his box where it was helped on to David Sinclair by Liam Fox.

Sinky sprayed it wide to Robbie Winters who played a give and go with Jacobs who raced through on goal and was found by Winters again before lashing the ball into the top corner from 14 yards.

The travelling fans hoped Livi would go on and kill the game off but it was the hosts who netted next when Paul Quinn diverted a downward header past Roddy McKenzie and beyond Johnny Brown at the post.

But the Lions weren’t to be denied the victory.

Loan-star Ewen Moyes, back in the team with regular centre-back Cammy MacDonald serving a one-match ban, showed great awareness to flick a leg out at a loose ball while grounded inside the box for his first ever senior goal and put his side well on the way for another crucial three points in their quest to win the title.

Striker Robbie Winters then had a glorious chance to seal the game in the closing stages after being picked out by Halliday but the normally reliable finisher fired wide of the goal.

Livi boss Gary Bollan said after the match that he was delighted with the victory and added:

"We showed character to respond to their equaliser."

Spiders coach Gardner Speirs said: "Livingston's exceptional strikers were the difference."
