Livingston dump Stranraer to edge closer to title glory

LIAM FOX and Robbie Winters headed Livingston to a fifth league win in a row to continue their seemingly unstoppable pursuit of the Third Division title.

Skipper Fox scored the opener with a glorious diving header before Winters doubled their advantage barely two minutes later.

Michael Moore hooked home a late consolation but it wasn’t enough to stop Livingston extending their lead at the top of the pile to 11 points with two games in hand over second-placed East Stirlingshire.

Livingston started on the front foot and Blues keeper David Mitchell had to be on his toes to keep out Keaghan Jacobs and Bobby Barr in the early going.

Stranraer were not without chances though and ex-Livi striker Armand One clipped the crossbar with a header.

It was a miss the former Lion was left to rue as his old team grabbed the opener with a superb goal from their captain.

A Danny Griffin corner was partially cleared by Scott Agnew but Fox launched himself at the bouncing ball and sent a diving header into the top right -hand corner of the net.

Livingston doubled their lead in quick time when Barr sent in a teasing cross for the unmarked Winters to head home his 12th goal of the season.

The home side continued to create chances and Barr came within a whisker of opening his Livingston account after a quick break provided him with a great chance but his toe-poke rolled agonisingly wide.

Stranraer’s Moore made the final four minutes tense after volleying home following a hooked cross from One but Livi held on for the victory.
