Halliday admits title is in sight

ANDY HALLIDAY knows he won’t be able to sleep on Friday night as Livingston gear up for the match which could see them crowned Third Division champs.

The Lions will clinch title glory with a point against Forfar at Almondvale on Saturday and Halliday admits he can’t wait for the weekend to come.

He said: “I definitely won’t be able to sleep on Friday night as it will be such a big day for the club.

“It will be a massive day for every one at Livingston, from the players, to the backroom staff, to the supporters.

“We want to clinch it on Saturday but it won’t be easy as Forfar are a good side and I feel they were the hardest team we’ve played against this season.

“I think there are six games to go, so if we can wrap it up on Saturday, it would allow us to go on and enjoy the rest of the season.

“I’ll be champing at the bit for a start on Saturday and, hopefully, I’ll be involved.”

Halliday was unleashed from the subs bench on Tuesday night and the turned his cameo appearance into a showstopping performance when he grabbed a priceless winner with stunning stoppage-time diving header.

And the 18-year-old admits it was a tough three points.

“We haven’t played our best football lately and everyone says it is harder to get across the finishing line when you are chasing a championship,” continued Halliday.

“I thought Montrose played pretty well and for the first 20 minutes they were really sharp.

“The pitch didn’t help us at all as we are a team which likes to get the ball down and pass it but it was hard.

“But it was the same old Livingston in that we kept going and going until the very end.

“I always felt we were going to scored although I did think it might be away from us when we missed a few more chances.

“I was lucky to get the goal and with it another three points.

“I’ve been working hard on my heading in training and I’ve seen a lot of improvements already.

“Last year was a very disappointing year for everyone at the club and we all want to win the Third Division title now.

“I could have scored about four in the 20 minutes that I was on the park before I got the winner.

“The surface left us feeling really heavy legged and the ball got caught under my feet a few times when I was trying to move it too quick, so maybe I was lucky that I got the chance to score with my head.”
