Halliday heading for Boro after clubs agree fee

LIVINGSTON have agreed a deal with English Championship side Middlesbrough for wonderkid Andy Halliday which will net the Lions a comfortable six figure sum.

The Lions’ top goalscorer will fly south to link up with the Championship cracks on July 1 in a deal which is reported to be worth around £200,000.

Halliday agreed terms at the start of the week and he could make his final Livi appearance on Saturday when the club will be presented with the Third Division title trophy.

Livingston Chief Executive Ged Nixon confirmed a deal has been struck and he paid tribute to the teenager and to Boro for their conduct in the deal.

He said: “It is a fantastic move for Andy and we think he is going to the right club.

“Despite the fact there were so many clubs enquiring about his availability it was important to us he went to the right club.

“Fortunately for us the right club have also offered the right money and Middlesborough have been a pleasure to deal with and we look forward to a flourishing relationship with them.”

Nixon also revealed Livingston have included a series of add-ons in the transfer including a substantial percentage of any future transfer fee.

He said: “I’ve commented before that any deal this club does on the sale of a player moving forward will include add-ons and despite the fact Andrew is a free agent, which made our bargaining position somewhat restricted, we have significant add-ons where he is concerned.

“We do wish the figure to remain undisclosed it is a very acceptable upfront figure with add-ons as and when the player develops we are also happy.

“It is also great for Andy that he is going to a club which has a proven track record of developing players in the position he plays.

“We are confident his career will flourish and as that happens Livingston will benefit.”

Halliday had several suitors on both sides of the border but the Teesiders have won the race for his signature as the latest in a long line of Livi kids earns a big move.
