Livi newboy Conway ready to make most of Almondvale chance

Aaron Conway

AARON CONWAY has already watched his football dreams slip away once before and has vowed not to let that happen again.
A rollercoaster career for the wing ace began as a highly rated kid at Tannadice, before brief spells in the lower leagues was followed by three seasons in the junior ranks.
But Conway never gave up hope of a return to the senior game and now he is delighted to have sealed a return to full-time football after Livingston came calling.
And this time Conway has vowed to make the most of his second chance and finally realise his potential.
He has signed a one-year deal at Almondvale, where he hopes to fill the void left by Andy Halliday as the side’s wing wizard.
He said: “Livingston is a big move for me.
“This is a big club and hopefully we can be up at the top of the table challenging for the title.
“It’s going to be a fantastic season to be playing at this stadium every second week.
“I can play wide, up front or just off the front two as well and hopefully I can be a regular and I can do well and we can go on and win the league.
“Andy Halliday was a very good player who did well to earn a move to Middlesbrough.
“There are a lot of good players here at the club so I’ve got to do well.
“I just need to try and do my very best for Livi.”
After starting his career with Dundee United, Conway had brief spells with Clyde, Dundee and Forfar.
He then dropped out of the senior set-up and switched to Junior side Carnoustie Panmure for a three-season spell.
East Fife then gave him the chance to return to the Seniors.
But when his former United team-mate and current Livingston boss Gary Bollan came calling, he admits he jumped at the chance to move to Almondvale.
“I know the gaffer quite well as he was at Dundee United when I started out there,” continued Conway.
“We were also at Clyde at the same time when I was a player-on-loan and he was a coach.
“The move here to Livi came about because of the gaffer.
“He kept tabs on me through last season and spoke to me at the end of the season.
“After that, I was just waiting for the phone call and when it came I was straight down here and I signed for the club.
“It’s been a lot of hard work to come back to full-time football and I hope it will be justified this season if we do well.
“This will be a big year for me this season and I’m determined to make the most of it.
“I was in and out of the team at East Fife last season but for me it was an experience, as I was coming back from a long spell in Junior football.
“When I was playing with Carnoustie it was always at the back of my mind that I could get back to full-time football but you just have to take each season as it comes.
“I was a young, naive boy at Dundee United but since then I feel I’ve matured and grown up a lot.
“I listen a lot more than I used to, and I’ve recently become a father.
“I’m glad to be back full-time and it has been a long, long time coming.
“I’m not going to let it slip through my fingers this time.”
