Livingston sharp-shooter Iain Russell loving life with free-flowing Lions

IAIN RUSSELL scored for the second match in a row and admitted he is loving life playing for a club he reckons plays the game the way it’s meant to be played.

He said: “Livingston try and play football which is important for me and the boys have proved so far and in pre-season they like to get the ball on the deck and try to play attacking football.

“We’ve not managed to win a competitive game yet but the boys have great and we’ve been creating chances and I think we’re playing the right way.

“There is a lot of negative football being played by some clubs, one up front and that sort of tactic out there, but Livingston try and play the right way, passing the ball and trying to score goals.

“I thought it was an exciting game against Alloa, end to end, and the way football should be played.”

Despite the Lions finding the net three times, and leading 2-0 at the break, they were denied an opening day win by Alloa which Rusell admits was a disappointment.

He continued: “It was disappointing not to have won and we knew at half-time it was important not to give anything away but they got back into the game with a really good goal which gave them a lift.

“And it was an end to end second-half and a good game for the first game of the season.

“For my goal I saw Robbo (Stephen Robertson) had come out of his goal and wasn’t going to get there. The boys are saying it was a cross but I looked up and saw he had ran to the ball and then check back so that gave me a wee bit of time to place it in.

“I did get a bit of stick because I was there last season on loan and I tried to go back again but wasn’t allowed so I went to Stirling Albion where I ended up winning the league with them.

“I didn’t mind the stick though, it’s part of the game.”
