LIAM FOX insists the wheels won’t come off Livingston’s title charge after Brechin derailed the league leaders’ winning run with a late suckerpunch on Tuesday night.
Craig Molloy’s 87th-minute winner at Glebe Park brought nearest rivals Brechin within eight points of Livi with two games in hand.
With third-placed Ayr United having played four games fewer than Gary Bollan’s men, the Somerset Park side could move to within a point of Livingston should they win their games in hand.
However, Lions skipper Fox has told fans not to panic as he believes the defeat at Brechin can spur his side on to championship glory.
He said: “It’s a massive disappointment but there is no need to panic. We’d have liked to have kept our good winning run going but it had to come to an end at sometime, although it was sickening to lose it so late in the game.
‘But, as I’ve said before, there are going to be plenty of twists and turns along the way in this season.
“We have been on a really good run recently and it was disappointing not to keep it going but we’ll be back and ready to go come Saturday for the Alloa game.
“We had a poor result against Forfar around the same time last season but recovered to go on to do well, so hopefully the same thing can happen this year and be a wee reminder for us to keep going.”
Fox concedes the badly cut-up surface at Glebe Park didn’t help Livingston or suit their usual passing game but he refuses to make any excuses for the defeat, pointing out it was the same for both sides.
He continued: “The pitch wasn’t great and was probably the worst I have ever played on, to be honest. That’s not to make any excuses as it was the same for both teams.
“Taking a point from Brechin on a surface like that would have probably have been a good result but that’s gone now and we need to look forward to the Alloa match.
“It was a poor pitch but there wasn’t much quality in the game either but they managed to nick the goal at the end and we didn’t but that’s football.”
Despite the Glebe Park setback, Livingston still have an eight-point lead at the top and Fox is hoping an upcoming home double-header can see the Lions roar back to a winning track.
He added: “There is a long way to go until the end of the season and we’ll continue to take each game as it comes.
“We never got too high when we were on our winning run but we also won’t get too down after this defeat either.
“All good runs have to come to an end. It was disappointing but we’ll be back on Saturday.
“Our home is always going to be important and we have two big games coming up here which we’ll try to win.”
