Rose grow on Vareille

LINLITHGOW Rose have confirmed they are in locked in talks aimed at bringing a proven SPL goalscorer to Prestonfield.

Rose boss Brian Fairley admitted to the Courier this week that he has held several discussions with ex-Kilmarnock striker Jerome Vareille about a switch to Linlithgow.

34-year-old Vareille has been in Scotland for nine years, starring in the colours of Killie, Airdrie and Ayr United but he could be set for a switch to West Lothian.

“We have been speaking to Jerome for the best part of a month,” confirmed Fairley.

“He seems very interested and he has been down to have a look at our set-up and have a look about.

“He is obviously still keen to stay senior so he hasn’t committed to us yet, but we plan to meet again later this week.”

Although Vareille boasts a proven top-flight pedigree he also comes at a cost and Fairley admits the two camps have yet to agree terms for the audacious move.

“We have discussed terms but we are still a wee bit apart at the moment but I’m still quite hopeful something can happen.

“He is still fit at 34 and he has his legs but we have to be sure he is committed to what we are trying to do.”

One player who is definitely joining the Linlithgow camp is Forfar forward Chris Geddes but Fairley reckons Rose aren’t done yet.

“The signing of Geddes should be wrapped up this week but we still have one or two irons in the fire.”
