BROXBURN’S Junior Scottish Cup hopes are still alive after a battling draw in Tayside.
The West Lothian stars held Dundee Downfield to a 1-1 draw on their own patch to take the tie to a replay.
After a goalless first half the game sprung into life after the break with Dundee having a man sent off before taking the lead shortly afterwards.
Stuart Fraser was the goalscorer after a superb solo run.
But the 10 men of Downfield shot themselves in the foot again by being reduced to nine men when Andy Rollo received his marching orders.
And they were punished for their indiscipline when Steven Payne unleashed a 25-yard rocket into the top corner to book Alan Middleton’s men a replay on Saturday.
Broxburn: Sheridan, Gibson, Bishop, Ritchie, Wilson, Payne, Cruikshanks, Dickov, Craig, Pearson, Young. Subs: Cunningham, Porteous, Douglas, Mackin.
IT wasn’t a good day at the Scottish Cup office for Armadale as they were hammered 4-1 at home by Edinburgh.
The Dale have been decimated by injury but they will be disappointed at the manner of their defeat and falling at the first hurdle.
Edinburgh raced into a two-goal lead with strikes from Andy Malone and the ex-Dale striker John Martin.
Robbie Feeney pulled a goal back for Jim Henderson’s side but second half goals from Malone and Steven Finlayson ended their Cup dreams.
To make matters worse Armadale had Kevin O Neill and Lee Johnstone both sent off.
Armadale: Woods, Dick, Suchinsky, O Neill, McCulloch, Rodgers, Alexander, Burnett, Feeney, L Johnstone, Bonnar. Subs: McMeechan, Purdie, Allen, S Johnstone, Campbell.
WEST Calder’s rewards for their 330-mile round trip was a first-round exit as they fell to a 3-1 defeat in the capital of the Highlands.
The West Lothian cracks were in Inverness to play junior football’s newest members and in unfamiliar territory they came unstuck.
Kevin Paton grabbed their solitary strike on a day in which they finished with just nine men.
AND on Premier League duty, Fauldhouse maintained their good run of recent form by travelling to Carnoustie and returning with a point. The sides shared two goals.
