Whitburn face tough test

THE frosty weather put Whitburn’s Junior Scottish Cup adventure on ice last weekend but they will be back in action this Saturday when they travel to Lanarkshire to meet Bellshill.

Whitburn will have to be at the top of their game to see off the Central League outfit after they held the West Lothian side to a draw in a pre-season game.

The Burnie are one of only three county sides left in the competition and they have hopes of having their name etched on the trophy they won in 2000.

Blackburn are also on Scottish Cup duty when they host Lanark in what will be a real tough test for Mark Campbell’s men.

Lanark would give anyone in the Super League a game so South Division Blackburn have it all to do.

But they are on a good run and a giant-killing result is not outwith the realms of possibility.

The final Scottish Cup bout involving county sides sees Broxburn welcome Thorniewood to West Lothian.

A recent clash with Super League side Whitburn showed that Broxburn are a side blessed with bags of potential but they will have to be on top form to see off the side from Uddingston.

In the Super league, game of the day sees a battle of the heavyweights when two of West Lothian’s biggest names meet at Creamery Park.

Reigning Scottish Cup holders Bathgate Thistle have not had a campaign to cherish but that could all change in an instant considering the calibre of players available to boss Willie Hill.

The visitors to Bathgate are current Super League leaders Linlithgow Rose. There is no love lost between these two county rivals as bottom meets top.

Fauldhouse are wowing Premier League fans with their battling performances despite being restricted by a small squad.

And they are away to Dundonald this weekend in a match which they may struggle in with the Fifers scrapping for the points they need to stave off the threat of relegation.

Stoneyburn travel to Sauchie while Pumpherston entertain Dalkeith at home in the South Division.

Harthill are due to play West Calder but this may be postponed due to the death of former Harthill Royals Secretary Dick Adams.

Finally, Livingston are at home to Haddington.
