Whitburn begin to toy with relegation zone

WHITBURN slumped to another defeat as fears began to mount that the threat of relegation is a real one for them this season.

The Burnie were on their travels on Saturday as they visited Camelon and they failed to perform much to the dismay of their boss Derek Strickland.

Camelon took the lead after a mistake from Whitburn’s Alan Mooney. His wayward header found Blair Batchelor in space and he drove the ball past Stewart Walker in goal.

The West Lothian side tried desperately to respond and Colin Leiper cracked the crossbar with a fierce drive.

His effort suggests he could have a big future playing further up the field and his control and drive is something the Burnie could use right now.

After the break the county club hit back and levelled when Scott Murphy steered home a volley.

Three points were in their sights now but they fell away and lost their grip on the match.

Chris Jeffreys restored the hosts' advantage with a header and 10 minutes later the same player scored his second and his side’s third.

There was no way back now for Whitburn and another precious three points were lost as they descended into the mire of the relegation battle.

Whitburn: Walker, S Murphy, Leiper, Mooney, MvGurk, Donnelly, McNelis, Doig, McSween, Strickland, Dolan. Subs: MacKay, Lurinski, D Murphy.
