SFA chief visits site of United’s development

SFA Chief Executive Gordon Smith dropped in to check out Broxburn United’s new £2.5 million redevelopment.

The first phase is expected to start in March and includes the construction of a new pavilion, changing rooms and ancilliary facilities.

The eagerly-awaited confirmation follows approval of a tender at the West Lothian Council’s executive on Tuesday.

Livingston-based construction company Maxi Construction won the contract (first phase), worth around £1.7m, following a competitive tendering process.

Council leader Peter Johnston said: “It is fantastic news which I’m sure will be warmly welcomed by everyone at Broxburn United Football Club. Plus there is the added bonus that a local company won the contract.

“The Club has worked hard to secure its new facilities. When complete, the new facilities will have a major impact on the delivery of community sport in the Broxburn locality, contributing to increased participation in sport and physical activity.

“This is a great example of how partnership working at a local level can have positive benefits for our communities.”

Funding partners in the project include: West Lothian Council, Sportscotland, Robertson Trust, Garnochy Trust, Proceeds of Crime Act (funding from Cashback for Communities scheme), and Broxburn United Sports Club.
