STEVEN WEIR helped himself to another brace to take his tally to four in the last two games as the Whitburn bandwagon picked up speed.
Weir got his first goals in a Burnie shirt in the 6-1 mauling of Greenock last week and he picked up where he left off on Saturday by bagging another double, this time to slay Musselburgh.
It was his fierce drive which thudded in via the upright to give Whitburn the lead before strike buddy Colin Strickland beat the offside trap a little later to add a second.
Chris King pulled a goal back for Musselburgh but it was to no avail for one of the Super League’s early pacesetters as Weir found the net again to seal the points.
Bathgate Thistle went into the lion’s den and were under the cosh for most of the game against Lochee United but returned to Creamery Park with all three points after an excellent result.
The Jags were up against a strong Lochee side and found themselves pinned back for long spells but earned what could be a massive win following goals from Iain Nicolson and Jim Lister.
In the Premier League it wasn’t a good day for our sides as both Armadale and Fauldhouse slipped to defeat.
The Dale were at Tayport where they played well but lost by a solitary goal.
But Fauldhouse fared worse as they lost 2–0 at home to Perth side Kinnoull in a game they were expected to win.
In the South Division Broxburn produced the biggest score of the day in beating Pumpherston 6–1 on the road.
On the scoresheet for Broxburn were Alan Dickov (2), Ian Douglas (2), Chris Geddes and Kenny Hannah.
Billy Dunlop scored a consolation for Pumpherston.
Blackburn moved up to third in the table with a 1–0 win at home to Harthill.
Andy McQuillan scored the winner from the penalty spot after he himself was hauled down in the box.
Finally Livingston lost 2–1 at home to West Calder and Stoneyburn lost 4–1 at Dalkeith.
