Junior round-up (11/02/2010)

Superleague

WHITBURN’S Central Park passed a thorough Saturday morning pitch inspection to host its first match since early December but there was no happy return to action for the Burnie who lost 2-0 to Lochee.

Craig Robertson opened the scoring for the visitors midway through the first half when he raced through and fired past Ryan McGurk.

The killer second goal arrived just two minutes from the end after home stopper Colin Leiper slipped at a crucial time allowing Paul Blackwood to get to the bye line where he was able to squeeze a shot under McGurk.

Whitburn: R McGurk, S Murphy (Hastie), Mooney, Dolan, Leiper, Donnelly, Gormley, Doig, McSween, Strickland, Weir (D McGurk)

Subs not used: D Murphy, Walker

Premier League

ARMADALE racked up another hugely important three Premier League points with an away day win over Penicuik.

There were no goals at half-time but Armadale were piling the pressure on the Penicuik defence.

And five minutes into the second half their pressure told when Lee Johnstone scored the opener.

Ten minutes later strike partner Robbie Feeney doubled their advantage.

Penicuik managed to pull a goal back 10 minutes from the end through player-manager Craig Meikle but Feeney bagged his second of the game from the penalty spot to restore Armadales two-goal cushion.

However the Dale ended the game with 10 men after Lee Johnstone earned a second yellow card for dissent.

Armadale: Whartley, Bonnar, McIntosh, McCulloch, Buchanan, Mauchline, Lynch, R Johnstone, Feeney, L Johnstone, Connolly. Subs: Suchinsky, Manson, Valentine, Carson, Vita.

South Division

BROXBURN star John Jeffrie returned to haunt his former club with a vengeance last weekend by bagging a deadly treble.

Sauchie pounced after nine, 21 and 29 minutes, and all but sealed the points on a day when Broxburn were brilliant.

Sauchie, a club who still harbour promotion ambitions, did pull a goal back from Hugh Kerr but it was too little too late to take anything from the game.

Broxburn: G Maley, Bishop, Gibson, Cairns, Ritchie, Hannah, Martin, Miller, Geddes, Jeffrey, Young. Subs: Dickov, Craig, S Maley, Armit, Wilson, Bruce, Pearson.

East of Scotland Cup

HOME is where the hurt was for Harthill Royal who were hammered 11-1 by Bonnyrigg at the weekend.

The Superleague side ran amok at Gibbshill with a ruthless display against their South Division hosts.

Gary Shanks scored Royal's consolation on a day where they also had four players booked.

Harthill Royal: Miller, Williamson, Campbell, Wilson, Rodgers, Luke, Shanks, Walker, McArthur, Dickov, Wilkins. Subs: McGuinness, Hendry, Neally.
