Fife and Lothians Cup
PREMIER LEAGUE side Armadale claimed a Superleague scalp thanks to a moment of magic from Ryan Johnstone’s right boot.
The odds were stacked against the Dale taking anything away from Dundas Park.
But Jim Henderson’s men, still buoyed by a recent win over Arniston, upset their hosts with a stunning 1-0 victory to dump them out of the cup.
Ryan Johnstone’s winner was a spectacular strike, worthy of winning any game. Johnstone slammed home an unstoppable free-kick from 25 yards.
It meant Ryan enjoyed the headlines this week taking the spotlight away from his twin brother Lee who has been banging in the goals in recent games.
Armadale: Woods, Bonnar, McIntosh, McCulloch, Buchannan, R Johnstone, Lynch, Mauchline, Feeney, L Johnstone, Connolly. Subs: Suchinsky, Ballantyne, Cunningham, Vita, Carson, Manson.
THERE was also a win on the road for Fauldhouse who travelled to Newburgh and returned home with their cup hopes very much alive.
Brian Felvus scored the first while Ian Smith grabbed the second for the Hoose.
IT wasn’t all good news for our county clubs though as Broxburn were sent spinning out of the cup courtesy of a star performance from Spartan Kenny Young.
He scored twice and set up a third to leave Broxburn chasing shadows.
The Broxburn goal was scored by Barry Craig.
BLACKBURN’S Fife and Lothian’s cup dreams were also ended at the weekend when they lost 2-1 at Tranent. Grant Plenderleith scored for Blackburn
South Division
THERE was only game to survive the weather in the South Division and West Calder will be wishing it hadn’t.
The West Lothian side went down 3-1 in the capital to Edinburgh with the hosts grabbing all their goals in the second-half.
Steven Johnstone scored for West Calder.
