Whittlets whipped by rampant Rose
DAVE BAIKIE reckons Linlithgow took full advantage of their extra-man after thrashing ten-man Whittlets on Saturday in their Emirates Scottish Cup replay.
Rose fired five past their Ayrshire guests without reply scoring four of their goals after Whittlets had been reduced to ten men.
The Linlithgow manager said: “I thought we were in control of the match right up until we took the lead.
“However, the turning point in the match was when we won the penalty and they were reduced to ten men.
“With them two-goals and man down they were never going to get back into the match and we won quite comfortably in the end.”
Mark Tyrell drew first blood for Rose on 21 minutes when he bent in a freekick for the second successive match leaving Vics keeper Martin Barclay flapping at fresh air.
The match went from bad to worse for the visitors who conceded a penalty and lost a man when full-back David McGirven was red-carded after dragging down Roddy McLennan.
Striker Tommy Coyne blasted home the resulting spot-kick to double Linlithgow’s lead.
Coyne then turned provider by laying on No.3 for John Adam just before half-time.
Steve Manson netted the fourth with a sensational solo goal.
The Rose youngster picked the ball up 10 yards inside his own half before slaloming his way through half a dozen defenders before drilling home from 12 yards.
Whitletts were handed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back when they were awarded a penalty after Kevin Donnelly was adjudged to have fouled Ray Buchanan but Craig Main smacked his effort against the bar.
McLennan completed the scoring after latching on to a through ball and netting at the second attempt.
Whitletts boss Jim Geddes said: “The turning point was the penalty decision because I thought McGivern made a perfectly good sliding tackle.
“Our heads went down a bit but I am proud of the players as we have done well to have come this far.”
