Fife and Lothians Cup: Musselburgh Ath 2-2 Whitburn (Musselburgh won 3 – 1 pens).
WHITBURN paid the penalty as they tumbled out of the Fife and Lothian’s Cup on the lottery of spot-kicks in a match in which they had held the lead — twice.
Chris Dolan fired the Burnie in front after just seven minutes but they were pegged back by Matthew King midway through the first half.
Whitburn should have regained the lead shortly after the restart when Eamon McNelis was tripped in the box but Dolan’s well-struck penalty was saved in perhaps what was an omen of things to come.
Eleven minutes from the end Colin Strickland fired Whitburn back in front but for the second time it was a lead they couldn’t hold onto.
This time the equaliser came courtesy of a David Renton header forcing the game to a shoot-out.
And it was the Musselburgh keeper who came to the fore, saving three penalties to send Whitburn spinning out of the cup.

Colin Strickland steered home the second from close range before Dolan curled in a free kick for the third goal just after the break.
Dolan then completed his hat-trick with another freekick, this time a ferocious pile-driver which thudded into the net off the angle of post and crossbar to leave the keeper with no chance.
