Gordon Herd helps Rose to cup glory for second time

GORDON HERD has hailed goal hero Kevin Donnelly after his glorious volley clinched Scottish Cup glory for Linlithgow.

Frontman Herd watched with awe as right-back Donnelly smashed home a 20-yard stunner on Sunday and joked his team mate has too much technique — especially for a defender.

“What a finish from the big man,” beamed Herd.

“He actually has great technique and he doesn’t hit the ball like a defender does.

“He smashed that ball into the net and it was a goal worthy of winning any match.

“It is fitting that the TV cameras were there to see it, as he did brilliantly.”

Herd, a Scottish Cup winner with Rose in 2007, was thrilled at earning his second winners’ medal in a season in which they were written off by many at the start of the campaign.

He continued: “What a feeling it is to win the Scottish Cup again.

“We weren’t expected to go really far in the tournament, so to win it is amazing.

“What a party we are going to have tonight but my missus is going to make sure I’ll be OK for my flight in the morning to Cyprus, where I’m heading to for a wedding.

“It was really hot out there and it was hard to get your breath but the boys dug in and team were magnificent.

“It was hard in the first half to get into the pace of things and I had a good chance early on but their keeper made a good save.

“The heat made things difficult and it is a big park as well, which is something we’re not used to playing on in the Juniors but we managed to get there.

“Hopefully, we can push on from here and we have a massive game against Bo’ness on Saturday but we’ll have a good party first with the Scottish Cup.”
