West Lothian junior football round-up

WHITBURN earned their first home league win of the season to double their Premier League points tally.

Barry Craig fired the Burnie in front on the quarter-hour mark but the nervous home fans were left sweating until 14 minutes from time for their side to kill the game off.

Gary Millar slammed home a long range stunner on 76 minutes to finally give the hosts some breathing space to close the game out and take the points.

Armadale Thistle were held to a draw for the third time in their five league matches as they shared a goal apiece with Arniston Rangers.

Craig Chilton gave the Dale a first-half lead but Arniston levelled on the hour mark.

Armadale had a late chance to take all three points but it was squandered and the spoils were shared.

Broxburn slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of a Glenrothes side who move up to the top of the table.

Chris Jeffrey had put Broxburn in front before Lee Duffy levelled from the spot.

And two goals in the final 15 minutes clinched the points for the hosts.

In the South Division, Livingston United moved to within a point of the top after a 3-0 cruise at county neighbours Harthill Royal.

Ian Griffin, Graeme Crawford and Andy McQuillan each blasted home as Livi roared to the coat tails of league leaders Sauchie.

They meanwhile took top-spot from Fauldhouse United with a 4-2 win at Parkview.

Mark Wilkins had given the Hoose an early lead but Sauchie drew level through Morgan.

Chris McLennachan restored Fauldhouse’s lead seven minutes before the break but they were pegged back for a second time when Burns scored.

Sauchie scored twice in the second-half to hand Fauldhouse their first defeat of the season.

Dalkeith Thistle held Stoneyburn to a 2-2 draw for a result which keeps the county side in the mixer at the top end of the pile.

It was a hard-earned point for Stoneyburn who had fallen 2-0 behind.

But goals from Bryan King and Craig Easton salvaged a point.

Blackburn romped to a 4-1 away day demolition of Dunbar United to move up to fourth spot.

Paddy Donnelly, Danny Campbell and an Alan Brown spot-kick had Blackburn 3-0 to the good.

Dunbar did pull a goal back but the visitors restored their three-goal cushion before the end when sub Christopher Todd curled home.

Pumpherston picked up their first league win of the season on Saturday as they beat Haddington 3-1.

On the scoresheet for Pumphy were Barry Wales, Martin McCann and Ian Douglas.

Goal-crazy West Calder United took their goal tally to ten for the last two league fixtures by firing three past Edinburgh United in the capital.

There excellent away win follows a 7-1 slaughtering of Pumpherston a week earlier.

An own-goal and strikes from Aaron Lawrie and Jack Lorek tipped the scales in West Calder’s balance for the points.
