Second-half showing fires Broxburn title hopes

STEVIE PITTMAN admits things are hotting up in the Premier League title race as his side prepare for their final handful of fixtures with a promotion spot very much up for grabs.

The Broxburn Athletic boss saw his side produce a ruthless second-half display to dump Penicuik 3-0 to move to within a point of league leaders St Andrews.

He said: “In the first-half I thought the wind played a part in our performance and Penicuik had as many chances as we did. So I was happy to go in at half-time at 0-0 as I knew we’d have a strong wind behind us in the season-half.

“I felt we were solid at the start of the game but after the break we expressed ourselves, created a good few chances and fortunately for us we put a few of them away. Overall I think we deserved it.”

A John Wilson strike and a Paul Shields brace tipped the scales in Broxburn’s balance and Pittman admits it is all to play between now and the end of the season.

“We only have five games left,” began Pittman, “so it is all there for us.”

“This is what it is all about, especially if you are among the sides at the top of the league at this stage.

“Hopefully we can keep playing well, winning games and we get a wee bit of luck coming our way.”
