FAULDHOUSE United manager Davie Cowan insists his side will be ready for the season kick-off despite a disappointing showing against Blackburn in the League Cup.
The sides played out a 2-2 draw at Murrayfield in the Dechmont Forklift League Cup with Fauldhouse needing a last minute equaliser to claim a point.
While declaring himself disappointed at his side’s display Cowan said his players would be raring to go for their opening South Division match against Stoneyburn next week.
The Fauldhouse gaffer said: “I don’t think we played particularly well, especially in the first-half.
“The way we played was quite disappointing. There was just something wrong from the word go and I got this feeling that the players were going to be a bit flat no matter what we did to try and lift them.
“But to be fair to Blackburn they played well in the first-half and at the start of the second they scored two good goals.
“We somehow managed to claw our way back into the game. but it was disappointing overall. I don’t think you could publish what I said to the players at the break and at full-time.
“However, it is all part of the pre-season work out and we are gearing up for the new league campaign ahead.
“Overall, I think we are shaping up quite nicely and we are getting a few players back from holidays and work commitments now.
“I’m looking to add another striker and a right-back to the squad. The two lads we’ve got up front are doing a great job but we can’t expect them to do it all season. We need to account for injuries and give them some competition.
“We start with Stoneyburn a week on Saturday and I went to watch them this week and they looked good.
“I think it is going to be a very tough league to get out of this year but we are all looking forward to the challenge.”
In Group A Armadale Thistle defeated Camelon 2-1.
Camelon scored their first league cup goal but it was not enough to earn any points.
Both Armadale's goals came from good strikes with the second a 25-yard cracker from skipper Mauchline.
Camelon's goal came in injury time but it was too little too late as they remain bottom of the group.
Also in Group A Bathgate Thistle went down 2-0 away to Sauchie.
West Calder United’s topsy-turvy form in the Cup continued in Group B as they demolished Stoneyburn 7-2 away on Saturday.
After an opening day 5-0 win at home to Harthill Royal the South Division side then lost 6-2 to Fauldhouse but bounced back to claim another resounding victory against West Lothian rivals Stoneyburn.
Group B rivals Linlithgow Rose continued their good form with a convincing 4-1 win away to Harthill Royal.
In Group C Pumpherston Juniors ran out 1-0 winners over Livingston United while Broxburn Athletic shared the points with Penicuik Athletic following a 2-2 draw.
