Whitburn Clarets win Coalfields Regeneration Trust Midnight Leagues trophy

WHITBURN Clarets turned on the style to clinch the Coalfields Regeneration Trust Midnight Leagues trophy.

The girls found themselves in a tense tussle with Poltonhall Stars from Midlothian before coming through with flying colours to record a 3-2 win at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium.

Coach Craig Bodel said after the win: “There was a really strong field with six girls teams most of whom were really good sides.

“The Clarets were delighted with their win, and really enjoyed playing in a senior stadium.”

The Clarets star striker Beth McKay had a double reason to celebrate when she was awarded Player of the Tournament for the girls.

Over 100 midnight leaguers, from coalfields areas across central Scotland took part in the finals.

The Whitburn girls had joined Airdrie United players and coaching staff at a training session at the Excelsior Stadium on Sunday, September 18 before taking part in the competition.
