Pumphy demolished by Dunbar

Dunbar United 5, Pumpherston 1

DUNBAR United thrashed Pumpherston sending the county side to ninth in the South Division.

The home side took the lead on 14 minutes when John Twaddle fired home and Dunbar should have doubled their lead but both Twaddle and Robertson’s efforts were off target.

Pumphy grabbed an equaliser midway through the first half when Martin McCann’s unstoppable curling strike slammed into the top corner but Dunbar re-took the lead through Chris Grant.

Weir had a great chance just before the interval when he beat the offside trap but he opted to shoot when a cross would have set up an easy tap-in and hit the side netting, keeping the score 2-1 at half time.

Pumpherston had a strong claim for a penalty just after the break when McCann was clipped by the keeper as he tried to round him but instead of pointing to the spot, referee Michael Scott booked McCann for diving.

Dunbar added to their lead on 64 minutes. Morris was dispossessed in the middle of the park by Grant and he crossed for Weir to rifle home from 15 yards.

Grant scored his second from 10 yards before Robertson then saw an effort crash of the crossbar. Dunbar completed the scoring on 89 minutes with Robertson firing home.

The win was Dunbar’s first of the season and lifts them to 11th – three points behind Pumphy.
