The Hoose beat Spartans to go fourth

Spartans 1, Fauldhouse United 3

FAULDHOUSE rose to fourth in the South Division after beating Spartans 3-1.

Both sides were level at the break before The Hoose took control in the second half to claim all three points.

United opened the scoring six minutes into the match.

Sam Scott sent the ball to Kenny Martin who rounded the keeper and fired the ball into the empty net.

Wright was next to try his luck on 21 minutes but shot wide.

The Hoose could have gone further ahead soon after when Martin collected the ball on the left and crossed to Mark Wilkins but the keeper made a good save.

Spartans were level on 26 minutes when Wright broke through unchallenged with the defence claiming offside.

But he slipped the ball past Fauldhouse’s keeper and into the net as the sides went in level at the break.

The Hoose came out strongly in the second half and on 52 minutes Jason Deans put Martin through to grab his second and give Fauldhouse the lead.

Spartans’ Chris Milligan was creating good chances and put some dangerous balls through the game for the home side.

And on 53 minutes, Darren Thompson met one of Milligan’s crosses but his effort was well saved.

Debutant Gary Bannon should have opened his tally for The Hoose on the hour mark but fluffed his shot from close range.

Martin nearly grabbed his hat-trick when he latched onto a good ball from Bairdy but the keeper saved well.

The Hoose sealed their win when Deans fired home the decisive third from a freekick which crashed against the underside of the bar before going in.

The result lifts Fauldhouse to fourth and signals their title-winning intentions after beating a real championship contender on their own soil.
