TWO goals in two minutes helped Armadale Thistle negotiate a tricky cup trip to Ayrshire at the weekend.
Honours were even in the first half but the large travelling support – enduring wet and windy conditions – were on their feet in the 73rd minute when the West Lothian side took the lead.
A defensive lapse from Rovers’ Ian Fisher gifted Thistle skipper Scott Mauchline possession, who found space inside the box before to fire home.
Thistle doubled their advantage just a minute later when Jamie MacKay headed home following a corner to leave the home side with an uphill battle.
Ardrossan pushed forward and a spate of attack-minded substitutions paid off with six minutes left on the clock when Graeme Hamilton pulled one back.
But the Dale kept their cool and stayed composed right up to the final whistle.
Meanwhile, a host of West Lothian sides are in cup action this weekend after heavy rainfall forcing fixtures off.
Fauldhouse travel to Inverclyde to take on Port Glasgow, while Livingston United head to Ayrshire to take on Kilbirnie. Elsewhere, West Calder host Neilston.
