The Hoose dumped out of Scottish Junior Cup by Maybole

FAULDHOUSE manager Davie Cowan admits the South Division league is now the priority after his side were dumped out of the Scottish Junior Cup by impressive Ayrshire outfit Maybole.

The Hoose kept the home side at bay in the first half but a 15-minute goal blitz after the break from Maybole blew the West Lothian men away on a blustery Ayrshire day.

Cowan said: “We were slightly on top in the first half but they came out after the break and really took us apart.

“We didn't expect to win the game but it is still disappointing to go out of the cup.

“Our main priority is the league and that is what we will be looking towards now.”

Chris Allen broke the deadlock with a shot from inside the box on 49 minutes before a powerful drive from Scott Dempster beat Iain Stewart in the Fauldhouse goal.

It got worse for Cowan’s men when Scott Dinwoodie finished off a well-worked free-kick to make it 3-0

Jamie Gallacher then scored an own goal before Fauldhouse snatched a late consolation through Kenny Martin’s penalty-kick.

Fauldhouse will hope to shrug off the defeat by beating Harthill in the league this weekend.

The Royal are only two points off the bottom of the table after stumbling to a 4-3 defeat to Dalkeith on Saturday.

But despite The Hoose going into the match as slight favourites, Cowan is wary of the side who led 3-0 before allowing Dalkeith to come storming back for the win.

He said: “They showed at the weekend that they're a dangerous team.

“And, this season, I don't think anyone can go into any match expecting to win.

“We'll need to be on form and focused if we want to take the three points.”
